Highway 1, Big Sur closed, and hundreds of elephant seals \ud83d\udc18\ud83c\udf0a<\/h2>\n\n

There are moments in travel when the plan says one thing and reality replies: not today.That\u2019s exactly what happened with Highway 1 in California<\/strong> and the Big Sur<\/strong> stretch, which turned out to be closed.But instead of cliffs, we stumbled onto something even better \u2014 Elephant Seal Vista Point in San Simeon<\/strong>, where hundreds of elephant seals had completely taken over the coastline \ud83d\udc18\ud83c\udf0a<\/p>\n\n

But before we turned inland for the detour, we decided to drive a little farther toward the ocean.Just like that. For the view. <\/p>\n\n

First there was the ocean, then the wind, and finally something in the distance that looked like scattered boulders.Except a moment later, those \u201cboulders\u201d started moving, rolling over, and making sounds that were a perfect mix of snoring and mild complaints about the universe \ud83d\ude05<\/p>\n\n

That\u2019s when it hit us that we\u2019d stumbled upon Elephant Seal Vista Point in San Simeon<\/strong> \u2014 one of the largest breeding grounds for northern elephant seals in California.<\/p>\n\n

And when I say hundreds, I really mean hundreds.<\/strong>At first it looks like just a few bodies scattered across the sand, but a moment later you realize the beach is literally breathing.<\/p>\n\n

Some are sleeping, some are stretching, and others are trying to shift half a meter like it\u2019s a marathon, not just a change of position \ud83d\udc18\ud83c\udf0a<\/p>\n\n
